JAMES JACKSON
Librarian
James Jackson is the former Director of Bands for the Howland Local School District. A native of Struthers, Ohio, Mr. Jackson is graduate of Youngstown State University with Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees.
He has done additional graduate work at Kent State University and Bowling Green State University. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Jackson taught for thirty-one years in the Howland system with twenty-eight years at Howland High School.
During his tenure at Howland High School, Mr. Jackson was in direct charge of the Howland Tiger Marching Band, the Symphonic and Concert Bands, Jazz Ensemble I & II and the Basketball Pep Band. In addition to being an active participant in Ohio Music Education Association Adjudicated Events on both the district and state level, the Howland High School has had numerous performances in Eastern United States. Performances for the Howland High School Marching Band include National Football League games in Cleveland, Buffalo, and Detroit. Additional performances, both concert and marching, have been in Washington D.C., Winchester, Virginia, Richmond, Virginia, Orlando, Florida, and Holland, Michigan.
Mr. Jackson is an active adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association and has served as Guest Conductor for the ICL Music Festival. As a member of the W.D. Packard Concert Band, Mr. Jackson serves as the Band Librarian, teaches trombone privately, and is an active member of a local dance band, The Top Notes of Warren, Ohio.
