DONALD W. BYO

Conductor Emeritus • Conductor Laureate

Donald W. Byo joined the W.D. Packard Concert Band as principal bassoonist in1957. In 1984 he was appointed co-conductor of the Band along with Robert E. Fleming.

Mr. Byo retired from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University in 1992 where he served as Professor of Bassoon, Director of Bands and Director of the School of Music in a career lasting twenty-nine years. Prior to that he taught in the Lordstown and Niles City Schools. His performance history includes twenty years performing on the woodwind instruments as a member of the Kenley Players Orchestra.

At present he continues to be an active performer on the bassoon performing with the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra, Faculty Woodwind Quintets at Youngstown State University and Westminster College. Currently he serves on the adjunct music faculties at YSU, Westminster and Grove City College where he teaches bassoon students.

He and his wife, June, a violinist, live in Hubbard, Ohio
